Did you know that your praise has power?
When we praise God, it moves him to act on our behalf. And the devil knows it too. That is why when we face trials and sufferings in this life, the devil brings every bad thing to our thoughts except praise.
Do you remember the story of Job? The devil touched his life and he lost everything and the first thing that he did was to to worship God. In spite of all that he was going through, he didn't focus on the situation but instead he offered his worship unto God. He said in Job 1:21, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD".
Job was so close to God that he knew that no matter what happened in his life, that it was his duty to offer praise and worship unto God comes what may. Because of how he suffered and how he handled his sufferings, God restored all that he lost.
This too can be said about Paul and Silas who were both beaten and thrown into prison. Instead of focusing on the fact that they were put to shame and were in chains, they turned their attention to God and started offering worship to God in the prison cell. They used their weapon of worship to get attention from God.
The same can be said about King Jehoshaphat when he was supposed to go against his enemies in battle. He did something that would have probably been seen as stupid in the eyes of his opponents. Instead of approaching the battle in a way that would seem right, he sent his soldiers out and they started singing songs of praises unto God. It was by those songs of praises that God defeated their enemies. They didn't need to do anything because the battle was already won.
This is why it is important for us not to allow life to consume us. The enemy can indeed put thoughts in our minds to take our attention from praise and worship and instead allow our situation to overtake us to the point that we have headaches, feel stressed or depressed and sometimes want to commit suicide.
We hear it on the news so very often that person's commit suicide and other persons close to them didn't know what they were going through. Instead of focusing on our problems, trials and situations, we need to trust God and use our weapons. Most persons believe that prayer is the only weapon but we also have our praise and worship and if we use this weapon of praise and worship the way that we should, then we will get all of the blessings from the Lord. Psalm 22:3 tells us that the Lord inhabits the praises of his people.
Romans 8:28 also says "for we know that all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose".So when we are going through trials, we need to go through it with the spirit of confidence knowing that God is going to work it out in the end.
So praise is important because:
1. Praise moves God to act on your behalf
2. Praise takes your mind from your situation and turns your attention to God
3. Praise confuses the enemy just as we saw with the story of Jehoshaphat
4. Praise is an act of worship
